Anamaria Vieriu photography. When Images Breathe
– Yes, and it happens in very subtle ways. Every couple reveals a different facet of love to me ‒ gentle, playful, calm, or incredibly strong. I constantly witness how differently people choose to be together. It reminds me that love has no single form ‒ it lives in nuance.

Does your perception of love change after every wedding you photograph?

– I try not to interfere. Not to rush, not to fill the pauses, not to interrupt what needs to happen naturally. Very often, the most powerful moments arise in silence ‒ when nothing seems to be “happening,” yet everything is being felt. I’ve learned to trust those pauses and allow them to exist.

How do you work with silence, pauses, and invisible emotions ‒ the ones that are not posed?

– Today, luxury is care. It’s time, given generously. Attention to both details and people. Emotional depth that cannot be fabricated. It’s not about scale or excess ‒ it’s about intimacy and trust. About images that cannot be repeated because they were created only between these two people.

What does true luxury in wedding photography mean to you today?

– Composition is very important to me ‒ it’s my inner structure. But I never allow it to dictate life within the frame. I quietly build the space, the light, the boundaries, and then I step back and let the moment unfold on its own. I want an image to feel lived-in, not created ‒ alive, fluid, real.

Your photographs feel as if they are breathing. How do you find the balance between spontaneity and composition?

– Yes, and it was a very quiet moment. Not perfect, not performative. At one point, everything seemed to slow down, and the couple completely forgot about the camera, the people around them, even the fact that this was a photoshoot. They were simply together. These are the images I feel instinctively ‒ they don’t need explanation, because they are born from presence, not from the desire to appear a certain way.

Was there a moment during this shoot when you intuitively knew this image would?

– What is being felt will always matter more to me. Events are only the outer layer, the visible form. The real story lives much deeper ‒ in the nervous breath before a first look, in the subtle tightening of a hand during vows, in the silence between words. These moments often go unnoticed, yet they hold the greatest truth. I photograph not what everyone sees, but what is quietly lived on the inside.

When you look at a wedding through your lens, what matters more to you ‒ what is happening or what is being felt?
On silence, presence, and a love that doesn’t pose.
Anamaria Vieriu is a Chicago-based wedding photographer whose camera doesn’t simply document events ‒ it reads emotional states.
One of her images was chosen for the cover of
this Fleurish issue not for its flawless form, but for the truth it carries, even in silence.
In this conversation, we speak about presence, invisible moments, and a love that never needs direction.
